Butler University is a cross-enrolled institution in the Army ROTC Program, welcoming ROTC students. Butler students may enroll in the ROTC program at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis (IU Indianapolis), conveniently located just minutes away from our campus, all while working toward their Butler degree.

What is the ROTC?

The ROTC is a collection of college electives and a summer training program, paired with a four-year college degree. After completing all ROTC requirements, a cadet will receive a commission in the U.S. Army, the Army Reserves, or the Army National Guard.

The ROTC program is a values-based organization that will help you develop important leadership and life skills such as time management, stress management, physical fitness, and responsibility, just to name a few. All of these skills will be transferable to your future career, no matter what you decide to pursue.

How it Works at Butler

Through a cooperative program called the Consortium for Urban Education, Butler students may enroll in IU Indianapolis’ ROTC classes, pursue their major at Butler, graduate with a Butler degree, and earn a U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard commission.

High school students who are interested in the Army ROTC program can receive funding through a national scholarship opportunity that will cover the full cost of tuition. Students who receive a full tuition Army ROTC scholarship—either as a high school student or current Butler student—are also eligible for the Butler Room Award.
